Finding Specialty Food for Your Wedding

    Dear Jayne,

I have a HUGE problem. I'm Lebanese, I live in Green Bay, WI. There is little to no Lebanese population here.

So of course there are no Arabic/Lebanese food restaurants around here. I'm originally from Dearborn, Michigan and there it is the complete opposite! My fiance and I would like Lebanese cuisine at our reception. I've looked everywhere and the closest thing I could find is in Milwaukee. (And the food isn't too great- it's more Greek then anything.)

Can you get your hands on any web sites that would be helpful?

    Please help me!
    Amanda

    Amanda,

Here you are, all ready to ditch the same old boring prime rib, and provide an interesting and I'm sure delicious new menu to your wedding guests...and you can't find the right food!

How frustrating. I bet this happens more often than most brides would think. Specialty catering of any kind can be hard to find, especially in non-urban areas.

One of our new experts, Debi Frumkin, the CEO of A Silver Lining ~ Hospitality Consulting & Event Coordinating, came up with some ideas I think are pretty clever. And they work for any type of cuisine!

Debi says, "I would suggest one of two things: 1) Contact a caterer, not a restaurant, to setup a tasting for a Lebanese-style menu. Most caterers have the ability to produce more authentic food than a restaurant does because they can special order the items/product necessary for that meal.

    2) Amanda should contact the restaurants she loves in Michigan to find out if they have any referrals to restaurants or caterers in her area. Those restaurants might even be willing to come out and cater the wedding. Depending on her budget and how much she wants Lebanese food, this might work. I hope this helps!"

Thank you Debi and thank you, Amanda, for writing. Good luck with your wedding. Let us know how it went!
