    Seating at a Beach Wedding

    Hi Jayne,

Any suggestion for alternative seating for a beach wedding? The ceremony will be very short and sweet, do we need to have chairs for all if our guests? Or can we just do chairs for family and adults with small children?

    Thanks, Vicki

    Hiya Vicki,

First let me say that talking about a beach wedding in dreary March makes me extremely jealous. Oh sunshine, where are you. Secondly - I know we call this column "But that's just me" but this time "me" is sorely underqualified to answer a question.

So I will hand it over to someone who does know a lot about beach weddings, Stephanie Happ of Swept Away ~ Destination Wedding Consultants....

"For a beach wedding, chairs are not always necessary. You have a couple options:

    * Have chairs solely for immediate family, perhaps (6) chairs on each side, this allows you to structure the space & create an aisle for you to walk down. The remaining guests will have direction on where they should stand.

    * No chairs at all. If you have a small, intimate wedding you can have your guests line up shoulder to shoulder on either side to create the aisle for you to walk down, once you are to the front that can form a half moon around your & your fiancé to enjoy the intimate ceremony.

    * Please keep in mind any elderly guests that may be attending…depending on the location and how long you may be there to take pictures you should have a place for them to sit. "

    Excellent ideas, Stephanie. Thanks!

I'm having an outdoor wedding in march!  I am very excited as
you can probably tell.  I found that href="http://just5buckshosting.com/indoor-benches-article.htm"
    target="_blank">outdoor benches are an awesome
alternative to folding chairs. You can seat more people in a small
area, but your wedding will still look classy;)

Greetings from Manhattan Beach, California, where I am a local wedding photographer. We have beach weddings here all the time, and always with seats! The local county charges only $150 for a permit to use the beach, plus 15% of the vendor fees (chair rentals, photographer, etc.) It sounds like a lot, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than renting a banquet room.

Those are good points. The seating is always an issue for outdoor weddings and especially beach weddings. However there are a million different ways to do anything and ultimetly it depends on how formal you want the wedding.

One interesting way for a very informal wedding is have the guest form a circle around the couple. This will work if there are only 10 to 15 wedding guests but it is very intimate!

    Thanks

I am having a semi formal wedding on the beach, I wanted everyone coming to where white, beach type clothing...makes for great photos! Anyway, my maid of honor is super great and is doing everything I could have asked for and MORE...way more, infact, she is trying to change my actual wedding dress, colors and told me I need to make it more formal..I planned my wedding around my dream wedding, which is cute and comfy on the beach...she's been so great and I know she's a bit upset that she and her boyfriend aren't married yet and well...how do I tell her it's not her wedding? I am getting a bit confused and I am getting married in march..please help!
