Do You Really Need a Wedding Video? The Pros & Cons Of This Not-So-Traditional Expense

Every little girl dreams about a fairytale wedding. A handsome husband, a fancy white dress, a beautiful wedding on the beach at sunset… Whatever your dreams are, you want your wedding day to go off without a hitch – you want it to be perfect. In preparation for that day, you spend countless hours making wedding decisions, and you (or maybe your parents?) spend thousands of dollars to put it all into motion.

One of the most important details is your wedding photography. You want to hire the best photographer to capture everything. Many couples also hire a videographer to get it all on tape. But when you’re already spending so much, a videographer seems like an optional expense. After all, how many times do couples watch their wedding video over the years? Do you really need a wedding video?

The Pros

Reliving the Day – From a New Perspective

Couples get wedding videos so that they can watch their wedding over and over again throughout the years. The video allows them to view their wedding from a different point of view. While you’re participating in your wedding and saying your vows, you don’t exactly get to see or pay close attention to everything that’s going on. You’ll be able to see your guests, the entire view of the church or venue, and both of your facial expressions. A video truly preserves your memories of the day and allows you to get the most out of it.

Something for the Generations

Another reason many couples get a wedding video isn’t necessarily so they can watch it again, but so they can show it to their children and grandchildren. As children get older, they’re interested in their parents’ lives before they had kids. Describing your wedding for them is nothing compared to actually showing them. They’ll love to be able to see it, and you’ll love to be able to pass on the memories of such a special day to all the important people in your lives who come later.

The Cons

The Cost Issue

Hiring a good videographer can cost you thousands of more dollars. Weddings are so expensive already, and sometimes there just isn’t room in the budget for things that aren’t considered mandatory. Some couples think a wedding video is a must, but others see cutting it as a way to save money.

The Quality Issue

There are lots of things that can go wrong on your wedding day, and your video is no exception. If you hire a low-cost videographer, you will sacrifice quality and could be very unhappy with the finished product. Even with an experienced professional, unexpected things can happen. A low-quality wedding video would be terribly disappointing.

Do You Need It?

Ultimately, the decision on whether or not to spring for a wedding videographer is up to you. If you do hire one, do yourself a favor and don’t go with the best bargain. A wedding video is an art, just like the photographs or the making of your dress, so choose a videographer with an amazing demo reel and stellar recommendations. You may not NEED a wedding video, but if you do get one, you need it to be great.

I am the type of person that doesn't like to take photos or make videos but enjoys a lot viewing them after a period of time... this is a paradox... But that's how it is... So a good quality photography and a photographer who captures the moment without ruining it is crucial for me... thank you for this blog
